Pole Dance for Fun

The first time I saw one of those pole dance videos was when I saw the infamous movie “Striptease” starring Demi Moore. The dance sequence not only showed Ms. Moore’s stripteasing skills (which she apparently had to learn for the movie for which she was paid a whopping US$18 million dollars, the highest fee ever received by an actress at the time), but it also showed her well-toned, very taut, athletic body. I guess this is where all the fascination for pole dancing for Fun started.

Far from its origins as what some consider as a seedy, less-than-honorable occupation for down-and-out yet well-endowed women, pole dancing has become a legitimate form of exercise. With celebrities learning to pole dance to regain back their figure (like Kate Hudson), or to sell their music videos (like Britney Spears), it is not surprising that people have become accustomed to it, with some becoming curious enough to actually try it. And pole dance fitness does have scientifically proven health benefits. In addition to giving you well-toned muscles, it also increases flexibility, strengthens your core and promotes weight loss.

But because of the still somewhat “dubious” reputation linked to pole dancing, people have resorted to watching pole dance videos to learn the art of stripteasing and pole dancing in the privacy of their own homes.

Pole dance videos often produced by and starring pole dance “experts”, contain step-by-step guides on how to dance like a real pole dancer. Some pole dance videos start with tips on how to buy the perfect pole, what to wear and what not to wear when dancing on the pole and some basic safety guidelines.

Pole dancing, like any other form of dance, is composed of a number of basic steps and stances. Most pole dance videos include instructional material on how to do a basic pole stand, on how to do transitional moves, and on how to do the fireman and back hook spin. For intermediate pole dancers, pole dance videos also offer instructions on more complicated maneuvers, like the basic kick-up invert, the cradle spin and the wrap-around move. It is evident from all the dance moves that thighs and abdominal muscles are being worked hard to execute the beautiful moves that makes pole dancing such a delight to watch.

Pole dancing is a fun, sexy, yet effective way of losing weight and keeping physically fit. If you are a little shy to join a pole dancing class being offered in your local gym, try pole dance videos first. All you need is a perky attitude, a willingness to learn, and of course – a big, steel pole.
